The Super Cyclone Amphan hit the Bangladesh coast on 20 May 2020 with a wind speed of 160km per hour, and heavy rains and tidal surges of up to nine feet. Khulna, Satkhira, Barguna, Bhola, Patuakhali, Pirojpur, Noakhali, Bagerhat and Jashore were the most affected. More than 10 million people in 19 coastal districts were affected.

Uprooted trees and collapsing houses killed 34 people. More than 2,217,667 houses were damaged. Cyclone Amphan has reportedly caused damages worth USD 130 million.
100,000 people have been displaced in the coastal regions. They have been taking shelter at cyclone shelters, roads and embankments. They lack food, safe drinking water and sanitation. Communication channels have been damaged.
BRAC, with the Government of Bangladesh, provided support to people worst affected in the coastal districts with cash support for repairing damaged houses, food, safe drinking water, oral saline, and WASH facilities, while taking steps to minimise the impact of COVID-19.
