Waterborne diseases spread as flood continues

Some 3.7 million people across 19 districts have been affected by the monsoon floods since the past month. More than 250,000 houses have been destroyed, including nearly 17,000 houses that have been washed away completely and over 65,000 partially lost to riverbank erosion.

Over 53km of embankments have been destroyed allowing water to inundate homes, infrastructure and agricultural lands.

Water has started receding but meteorological forecasts predict that flooding will intensify again this month.

As many as 110 people, many of them children, have lost their lives. Hundreds of schools have shut. More families are in danger every day as waterborne diseases spread.

BRAC is working hard to provide families with food, medicine and cash support. We have provided relief worth over BDT 2 million among 11,000 households in 12 districts to date. We have also commenced preparations to build toilets, install tube wells and create child-friendly spaces while schools are closed.

We encourage you to stand by the flood affected families and help them rebuild. Stay connected to BRAC for more information on how we are responding.
